Dean Singleton, exit, stage left

The Denver Post story offered little substance, no surprise since Dean was probably the lead editor on that. Ken Doctor does a very good analysis on what it means: private equity taking over.

On the good, they're antsy about innovating, so the half-assed moves that MediaNews papers have been making should become full-assed. On the bad ... they're private equity, and if you think Dean and the rest of the aforementioned See You In Hell Quartet casually dismissed people's livelihoods, wait till the new guys dig into the books.

The Denver Post may be one of the only papers in the country that is considerably better than it was five years ago.

It will be a shame if this changes that.

Rumors flying out here that Uncle Dean has an announcement coming tomorrow and it's not good for some smaller papers in the northern part of the state.

Include the Paxton suits with that bunch.

Whem was the last time Singleton had an announcement that was good news? Has there EVER been an announcement where this guy gave anyone good news?

I don't know if Singleton is that nursing home cat that shows up just before newspapers die or the fever from The Walking Dead.

Singleton buys up Loveland, Longmont and Canon City. Hearing more coming.

That sucks. The Times-Call is one of the better smaller papers around. That's sure to change now.

Guess the Lehman gave up. I guess those who Singleton will cut can always park cars at the Lehman holiday bashes.

This is a serious shame. Longmont always played much bigger than it was - and was pretty good at it - while Loveland embarrassed Fort Collins' Gannett "effort" at design and presentation.

Good luck to all affected newsroom employees.

I almost get the impression that the smaller Colorado papers will be a parting gift to Singleton from the creditors.
