Deadspin: "The AP Is Gay for Stupid"

Good point, 21. I think we got too caught up in analyzing objectivity from an us vs. them standpoint instead of a journalistic standpoint. AP is a preferred whipping boy, but it's hardly alone in this industry in the zeal to present both sides equally that it rarely presents either side adequately. "Objectivity" basically killed this story.

That's not bullying. She's a bad person who deserved that.

For real, though, if you are a business person, you have to be smarter than that.

Seriously. This isn't the kind of country in which you should feel comfortable expressing your beliefs through any kind of action. Better to keep that shit to yourself, especially when you're wrong.

You can express your beliefs all you want. Just be aware that your customers might express theirs by staying away.

It seems in this case, this guy doesn't seem to have relevance to this particular story, and it sounds like he was merely asked to make a statement.. But if he were a kid of some right-wing club on campus that had more than token membership, and the right questions were asked of him, then that would be relevant. This was just a misguided judgment that doesn't mean objectivism should be dead. Then again, let's be careful about what's a "settled issue;" there's a lotta contradictory info about just what that is. For example, alphabets won't be truly happy until all MSM crusade for the "settled issue" that college football players should be paid.

As opposed to "crusad[ing]" on behalf of the NCAA rulebook? The point is not whether objectivism "should" be dead--my point is that it's always been a fallacy. The decision to even publish a story based on an NCAA rules violation requires all sorts of subjective judgments. Whether or not you believe it's "settled issue", it's absurd to think reporters somehow remain "objective" by not advocating for players to get paid. They're writing these stories for some reason--whether to help maintain the status quo or to demonstrate that it should change. One can advocate through a descriptive piece of writing.

Hockey has been at the forefront at trying to end homophobia in sports thanks to Patrick Burke's fairly high profile "You Can Play" project.

This may be one of the reasons this story is being reported. There's a feeling in some circles is that the first pro athlete who comes out during his career will be a hockey player

As others have said, not sure what relevance this guy's quote has to do with a story regarding the UConn hockey team's decision. .
