I think he's crazy enough in his belief system that he wouldn't go away. Instead, if he was ignored, he'd feel perfectly free to protest any funeral he wanted to.

Are you under the impression that publicity is preventing them from picketing funerals now? This is sheer cluelessness. Attention is the only thing that truly concerns the Phelps family (and that's essentially all WBC is--just one fucked up family of Topeka shysters). His true "belief system" is pure attention whoring.

And, fwiw, they don't actually show up at most of the events they claim to be picketing anyways. They just issue little press releases claiming they're gonna picket, so that they get press coverage and attention, but very often don't even show up. Press attention is the whole purpose of it. "Ignored" is the last thing they want.

 

They don't show up because they've gotten so many threats and protesters against them, they can't spread their shitty message.

If everyone ignored them, they'd feel free to walk right up to the gravesite and screech.

 

They never showed up to most of these announced protests in the first place. If they're batting .100 on coming through on those threats, I'd be shocked.

Oh, bullshit. They don't show up because it actually takes money, time and effort to show up at everything they claim they'll be showing up at. No need to always go to all that fuss when you can still get the desired press coverage on the cheap simply by releasing a short statement or press release.

The only kind of attention these guys might fear is the shovel smashed upside Fred Phelps' head, presuming the media colluded to ignore it. But the notion that they fear media publicity is just asinine. They are pure attention whores. Getting media attention is their primary goal. You still haven't figured that out?
