Pacquiao became the man as soon as Pretty Boy hung the gloves up. Hopefully he'll come back and fight him.

I'd still rather see Mayweather fight Antonio Margarito.

De La Hoya looked old and slow in his last HBO (non PPV) fight. Anyone could see this coming.

Did this fight "save the sport of boxing" as was advertised as a possible outcome?
I didn't watch, but did see a decent Jeremy Schapp feature during football coverage on how Pacq. is adored in the Philippines.

    Did the fight save boxing?

Probably not. It didn't kill it, but it didn't save it.

I haven't seen De La Hoya live since he beat Pernell Whitaker, in a fight that honestly could have gone the other way. You can make the argument that either one. I wasn't terribly impressed with him then, never terribly impressed in the times I have watched him since. I think Fenian raises a valid point. He's one of the very good ones, not one of the great ones.
And he's way behind his days. Time to move on Oscar.

If Oscar wants to fight again, it's his life and he can do whatever he wants.
I'm not going to pretend I know what's best for him better than he does.

  8. I'll pretend.

    Give it up Oscar.

Found this follow/profile of Freddie Roach in the L.A. Times interesting.

He agrees with you FoaF, as do I.

Manny Pacquiao might be the biggest hero in the Phillipines since Jose Rizal. Or at least Corazon Aquino.
