This one makes me feel old. Davy Jones had the teeny-bopper idol role in the Monkees, and for him to be the first to go is sobering.

Yeah, the show was kind of dumb, even back in the day, but they always had great material and the songs just jumped out of the radio. In fact, I would personally rank Pleasant Valley Sunday as one of the top 50 best songs of the 60s.

I think the Monkees' greatest hits are a fine play. Even their lesser hits, such as "What Am I Doin' Hanging Around?", were pretty damn great songs.

I think they wrote their own music.

I would add Valerie to the Top 50 of the 60's . The guitar riffs are still timeless.( whoever played them)

I always liked their music and the reruns of the tv show on Nickelodeon, but what really gets me is that he is my dad's age. RIP (to Jones, not my father)

Hot off of Fox Fuckhead News:

"Davy Jones, a founding member of the Monkees, who were the main inspiration for the Beatles...'

Geez - you would think that The Monkees were all Republicans.

The Last Train to Clarkeville was actually a protest song of Viet Nam.

It's the 60's "Born In the USA "

Part of the reason why sales went down when they started playing their own instruments is they didn't have the power of the weekly TV show to help drive singles, but musically it holds up pretty well, maybe better than the bubble gum of the first album. That also was part of the problem at the end, good tunes but no singles they could really push.
