Just fixed the header. My bad. Mods, delete if deemed necessary.

Doesn't sound good. When a statement about hospitalization ends with anything but "he is expected to make a full recovery," that's a bad sign.

Led the NBA out of the crapper (Magic and Bird helped a lot). Hard to believe the NBA Finals were on tape delay in the early 80s.

Hopefully he can make a full recovery.

The "tape delay" thing is a little overblown.

In 1980, for instance, there were six games in the NBA Finals. Three were shown live everywhere, two were shown live in Eastern and Central time zones, and for Game 6 affiliates had the choice of showing it live or on delay.

NBA shares some blame for this by starting its schedule much earlier in 1979 and 1980. That resulted in Finals games being played during the May sweeps.

1978 Finals ended on June 7.
1980 Finals ended on May 16.
1981 Finals ended on May 14.

I just spent a morning with him last month. He was in good spirits but when I asked how he was doing he took a deep breath and said, "tired." Said he was busier now than when he was commissioner.

That’s true. 1980-81 CBS was a powerhouse. MASH, Alice, Jeffersons, Dallas and they showed movies three nights a week.

A good long run of Bucks, Warriors, Suns, Blazers, Bullets and Sonics from 1974-79 with a couple of Celts and Sixers mixed in will take a toll on ratings.
