And even he wasn't great. But he was Ed Fucking Murrow next to Gregory.

He may not carry any White House water but he probably got more than a few attaboys from any buddies he does have inside. Which is what I was getting at.

Valerie Jarrett probably whispered the question in Gregory's ear.

Way too much buddy buddy between the media and politicians all over the city. Regardless of party affiliation. Regardless of who is in control of which body at the time.

It is an error to think of the Sunday morning interview shows as journalism in any way. They have devolved into a form of lobbying by the mass media conglomerates who own the three networks in which politicians are given free air time to blab away as an in kind bribe. Their hosts are chosen deliberately for their ability to reflect the collective "wisdom" of Americans making more than $250,000 a year and who are over 65, who compose the huge majority of their audiences.
But even by that low standard, Gregory's a complete loser. The other hosts at least come across as nice enough chaps. He's obviously an asshole.

His entire show consists of him trying to throw "gotcha" questions at conservatives. He also, occasionally, will ask a liberal a tough question...but it seems more like he is trying to give the liberal a chance to explain his/herself than actually grilling them on something. He's a joke.

David Gregory isn't mean to conservatives or liberals because of political ideology.

Stretch exists in a world that is entirely in service of the conventional wisdom and political power. His only goal is to win the morning.

Ben, I would submit that Gregory's apparent hectoring of conservatives is primarily due to the Sunday morning shows' documented tendency to have more Republican guests than Democratic ones, no matter which party has the White House or the majority in Congress. Those are his guests, so those guests get the questions. Of course, that apparent bias may simply be entirely due to John McCain's willingness to appear each and every Sunday. Many legislators of both parties may have better things to do with their time.

    Including McCain.

Seriously, one of the great missed opportunities for Republicans is relishing the incompetence and idiocy of the 2008 McCain campaign. Truly a comedy. At this point, McCain's just an easy man to rile up and set off.

The Pentagon Papers were classified. But because it was the New York Times gratefully accepting the leaks, all was okay.
