Well, pics out there show the parents to be hard-core Jets fans, so that might explain it.

That still doesn't make common practice a contract. Especially in a very uncommon situation.

Not when she turns 18, abandons her parents' rules and moves out of the house.

Didn't someone here say the point of debate is a college fund that had been set aside specifically for her? She deserves that. That's not to say she will get it.

My grandmother had a savings account meant for my college but when she died the August after I graduated, my uncle pocketed the cash, just under $10K

Why does she "deserve" it though? How is it any different than a gift given by her parents as a reward for her behavior?
I suppose the only argument I could see her making here is that she planned her college arraignments based on the mutually-agreed upon deal that she would receive the money in that fund and, as such, that her parents taking it away constitutes breaking an agreement but I doubt 1.) that she has it in writing and 2.) that that agreement doesn't become moot when she VOLUNTARILY leaves their house.
The bottom line for me here is that she chose to leave. A lot of people have tough parents. If you don't like their rules and can't stand living there, that's fine. Turn 18 and move away. But don't think you're entitled to something just for being born.

schieza, you've been watching too much porn. Not every Catholic schoolgirl is a secret slut whom you need to hatefuck while dreaming of your mother.

schieza, I agree with you. It's shouldn't be their responsibility to pay for college tuition. At least in my opinion, no parent should have that kind of responsibility as part of parenting.

A major issue with this lawsuit, though, is that NJ is probably the only state that makes parents responsible for child support for kids who go on to college -- a la a NJ court decision. That doesn't necessarily translate to the parents having to foot the bill for college tuition, but that is where her lawyer is heading, apparently.

FYI, the Daily News picked it up (with more photos of everyone): http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/n-honor-student-sues-parents-cut-age-18-suit-article-1.1709440

And the Daily Mail has now published some of the more sensational claims - on both sides - that apparently the Daily Record left out of its original report.

The Daily Mail quotes the court documents, which were not available at the time of the Record story posted.

Clearly, this is a family with serious, serious issues, ones that defy (or should) snap judgments about who did wrong to whom.

This just reaffirms my belief that this is nothing more than the case of a spoiled 18-year-old girl who thinks she's entitled to the world simply because she was created into it.
I hope the parents win big and she's forced to pay her own damn legal bills. Let it be a lesson for bringing about frivolous lawsuits.
And I can't see a scenario in which the courts in NJ side with her. If they rule she's not fit on be on her own and her parents have to support her, wouldn't they have to force her to live at home under their rules ... which the parents want anyway? If they rule that she's capable of living on her own, I can't see how they could compel the parents to support her.
Also, LTL, mom jokes? Really? I mean, I shouldn't be surprised. You've always struck me as someone who mentally peaked in third grade. I guess I shouldn't have expected any less but, man, step up your game.

I can see this ending with Rachel being introduced to the 'Duke freshman' and they make some 'movies' together. Rachel would have no problems paying for her own college tuition if she 'worked' five hours a month. [/crossthread]
