Dateless student told she can't attend prom

A 17-year-old had a date to her junior prom, bought the tickets, a dress and all the other accessories, which she says cost close to $1,000. But her date backed out, and now she's not allowed to go because the school has a rule against students going to the prom stag:

    Statement from the Archdiocese:

Her parents will probably sue the kid who backed out.

I guess I just live in a different world, because I cannot fathom being the kind of parent who thinks this needs to be brought to the attention of the local TV station.

Why the hell should it be necessary to have a date? Is there a rationale for this?

Ah, the Catholic Church. The next time I'm there, which probably won't be too soon, I plan to leave some common sense in the collection plate, instead of any money.

I almost expect part of the statement to read: 'While we are vehemently against pre-marital sex, policies such as our prom date one help increase occurrences for our weak willed youth to give in to their normal human desires at such events, thereby providing a large contingent to the confessional booths and ensuring a steady stream of business for our priests.'

If anyone's an expert on dating, it's the Catholic church.

My date backed out on me at the last minute, and it didn't even occur to me to raise a stink about it.

I called the local newspaper and told them I was available to string that night now. They took me up on it.

Why doesn't she just go with her dad?

My daughter didn't have a date for the prom. The pickings of legitimate prospects are slim at her public high school. She went with female friends and had a grand time. The requirement of a date seems ludicrous to me.

Kickoff, a lot of schools now are banning anyone over a certain age from entering the prom.

The school is punting on pre-marital sex and just trying to stop the kids from having threesomes.

Of course she went to the TV station. How else is she supposed to get a pity date from a porn actor?

That line applied some generic root beer to keyboard.
