He's getting killed by the radio station he usually appears on. One of the morning guys is a Michigan native.

Damon not coming to Boston has nothing to do with how much he loves Detroit. I thought Dan spelled it out pretty well why he isn't and clearly sides with Damon.

Sometimes you gotta write one for the home team.

Wrong. He can call him anything he wants.

Not to mention, Damon probably never has to fight traffic to get to the ballpark on gameday. Sometimes it's nice when your city isn't just like Boston, NYC or other busy metro areas.

Actually, NYC isn't too bad. The B train drops you off at Yankee Stadium and the LIRR or 7 takes you to Citi Field. But I don't guess too many players hop the train to the ballpark these days.

Yeah but in Detroit you can drive right off the expressway into the casino parking garage, which has an entrance off the expressway ramp - park for free and walk 3 blocks to the game. It's nice.

Sports columnists trashing city X in defense of the local burg is one of the oldest tricks in the book - and one that better columnists (like Shaughnessy) should refrain from.

I think next time I go, I'll remember that secret. It's amazing more people don't know that.

As for Damon, Sean Casey also wanted to stay in Detroit once he was there. Is it the park? The fans? The lack of pressure? (Boston's a pressure cooker atmosphere and Detroit isn't.) Who knows? I agree it was nice to hear some refreshing sports news for a change.

I agree that "your town stinks" is one of the oldest, stupidest, laziest columns there is. And Dan, who can really write well when he puts his mind to it, writes that column on a semi-regular basis, changing the identity of "your town" as needed. It's a bad habit he should stop.

I think too many are focusing on the stuff where he trashes Detroit. Yes, it does get old. Yes, you hear it all over the place. But after the first few graphs, he drops the Detroit bashing and focuses on how the Red Sox screwed up by not re-signing Damon.

I didn't think it was a bad column.

Twenty-three posts in and Chris L hasn't appeared. Send a search party, I fear the worst.
