    So John Patterson with the Nats doesn't count?

    I'd say he doesn't count simply because the Nats didn't throw $55 million at him.

    It's one thing when you're leading a crappy rotation by default in your pre-free agency years. It's quite another when a team CHOOSES to give you $55 million despite your less-than-stellar track record.

    Hell, I still feel better about the Royals going five years, $55 million on Gil Meche than four years, $40-$44 million on Ted Lilly. Because Lilly would have been the safe, predictable option and the Royals need to make some bold moves to reverse what's been going on there since Dick Howser's death.

    Anyway, back to Dice-K.
