It's safe to say that Charlottesville is a burrito haven, as far as Virginia standards go. When talking burritos, you also can't forget Guadalajara (or simply The Guad), which has three locations in town. Delicious.

As far as the staff, we have seven people in the sports dept. In addition to our Sports Editor/columnist, we have an assitant sports editor and a copy editor/designer that handle the majority of the desk duties. That leaves three reporters, including myself, and my old hybrid/utility position that is now open.

Holy crap. Where I used to work had a place we called the Guad. Does your Guad have cheese dip to die for?

I don't know if how tied to Sports you are, but the Charlottesville paper is also in dire need of another News desk page designer. They've been a man down for about a month, and they have yet to see anyone decent.

So, you could try applying for both jobs and probably at least land the copy editor spot pretty easily.

Sports Specialist -- Charlottesville, Va. ... also a spot on copy desk

For anyone who's curious, the Charlottesville paper just had a second position come open on the sports desk.

It's sorta similar to the first, in that it is a sorta utility role, but it's much more design heavy.

So any of you desk guys looking for a nice paper in a great town, now's your chance.

They have not received the go-ahead to post the job yet, but they probably will within the next few days.

That brings the total number of opening at Charlottesville to 3 -- sports specialist, sports copy editor and news copy editor.

    Who else is leaving?

Last I heard they had about 100 applicants for the first sports job and SE was getting ready to go over them this week.

I applied...C'ville is a beautiful locale and covering college sports is/has/always will be the dream. UVa's a good place to be.

Copy editor/designer Drew Hansen is leaving for The Washington Times. Good for him, but bad for me, Herky and the rest of the staff, which will be down to five guys until we fill these two recent openings.

So yeah, get those resumes/clips/samples in as soon as you can if you're interested...

Nice career arc. From Culpeper to C'ville to D.C. in less than a year. Makes some of us who've done jack shit in the last two years more ashamed than usual. Good on him.

You're right, MM - talk about the fast track.

Don't really know drew, but I've heard good things.

Drew's a good cat and congrats to him. I thought the second job available sounded like it might be his and I wasn't surprised he had an opportunity to move up.

Charlottesville just had ANOTHERposition open up. This one's not on the sports desk -- it's on the news copy desk.

The news editor is leaving in a few weeks. Since various papers have different titles, the news editor in C'ville is basically the copy desk chief.

So, at last count, that's FOUR openings in the last couple months in Charlottesville -- sports specialist, sports designer, news designer and news copy chief.
