Cutting Out Caffeine

Quick solution to this ... drink an ass load of water instead of a few cups or cans a day. I used to have to have like eight Coke's per day, but when I decided to knock it all out I just drank water all the time. I usually go into work with one or two liter sized bottles of water ... people make fun of me, but it's free for one, and I don't crash out half way through a shift on deadline for another.

I do have to pee a lot though.

So, you just drank Pepsi for 40 days?

Not only that, it's a good cornerstone for a diet too. 60 or more ounces a day.

My question is why would you want to quit drinking coffee, considering that there's nothing unhealthy about drinking it in moderation? Are you drinking too much coffee?

Soda/pop is far, far worse for you from a health standpoint.

I've given up lots of things recently. I'm exercising. Cut out this. Cut out that. Weight coming off, albeit more slowly than I'd like.
Give up coffee? Shoot me now. I told my doctor that is the one thing I refuse to do, health consequences be damned.

I like my coffee like I like my wimmen and I like a lot of it.

Funny, that's my attitude about the entire subject of food. ;)

There's also caffeine in chocolate, for those of us who can't break that habit.

    Everything in moderation. Including moderation.

    Coffee is actually an antioxidant.

It has been linked to helping to regulate blood sugar. Also staving off depression, among other things.

It's interesting-- decaf coffee doesn't have the same benefits.

So, I'd say no need to cut it out-- just save it for when you really need it.

Also, this is a GREAT tip courtesy Dr. Brother Lugs: When you have a cup of coffee, drink a big glass of cool water with it. That does two things:

    (1) Extends the "buzz"-- bigtime
    (2) Counteracts dehydrating effect

I have one cup of coffee a day-- half caff. When I really need it, I'll drink 3/4 caff or full caff. But then I taper back down. If you "play with it" like that, you can keep the caffeine intake in check... and still get the benefits.

Spend some time on Google and pubmed.org trying to figure out how harmful coffee is... every study has been done-- they keep trying to find a problem with it... and the bottom line is, it's not harmful except in megadoses.

I don't drink much. I quit smoking cold turkey back when I was 22 (except for maybe one every once in a while, but I can put it down), but if you try to take away my caffeine, I will succeed at breaking all ten commandments.

I tried to give up caffeine for Lent one year, but it was the most miserable two days of my life.

Cut out caffeine? Why would you do that?

And we have already discussed that. ;D
