I'm rooting for the Cubs for only one reason......

They'll fuck it up, and it'll be huge and spectacular when it happens.

I figure instant replay will play a part, as will Alfonso Soriano's defense and Zambrano's temper.

They're a 50-gallon drum of gasoline in a cigarette lighter factory.

People said the same exact thing about the 2004 Red Sox.

Duly noted about the replay. But let's put fanboishness aside. The Cubs have been the best team in the NL since Opening Day. They've been the deepest team with the best pitching, starters and bullpen, and have proved that over six months.

Also, look at the rest of the NL playoff field. Mets, Dodgers, Phillies, Brewers, Marlins and D-Backs. Can those teams beat the Cubs in a series? I'm betting no.

    Dodgers pitching > Cubs pitching

That will be a fine NLCS pairing.

Official prediction: Cubs sweep through the NL and in a cruel twist, lose the World Series to the Tampa Rays -- making it three Series titles for franchises one-fifth the age of the Cubs.

Three years ago, I predicted to my friends that when the Cubs finally made the Series, it would be the Rays that knocked them off. Just to be crazy, and because it was the most painfully ironic thing I could think of. Now I know I'll be right. But I'd be happy just to see them in the Series while it lasted.
