Wonder if he knows something we don't? Anywho, John McDonough leaving the Cubbies to take over as Blackhawks team prez.

For those not aware, the Blackhawks are enjoying somewhat of a renaissance in Chicago now that old guy Wirtz kicked the bucket. :)

Interesting. Chicago Tribune will have more details; link not available yet.

  2. The Hawks are finally joining the 1950s and planning to allow the broadcasting of their home games, but let's not go overboard on the whole "Blackhawks renaissance" thing. They're still 29th in home attendance out of 30 teams, and play to the smallest percentage of capacity in the league.

  4. He's got a hard road ahead of him. I know the Blackhawks were wildly popular in the 60s, 70s and 80s - they were arguably the No. 1 team in town for a time - but by not having their games on TV, coupled with a decade of lousy play, I wonder if they've permanently lost a generation of potential fans.

McDonough should be able to improve things somewhat, if for no other reason than it can't possible get any worse than it did during the last few years of the Bill Wirtz era, but getting the Hawks back to the "Madhouse on Madison" days may be impossible. At this point, just getting the UC filled to 75 percent capacity would represent a triumph; the Hawks haven't drawn that well since 01-02.

They've still got some of the best uniforms in sports, though...

Rocky Wirtz is a 180 from his old man, judging by his early decisions.

I guess he figured, "Go F*ck Yourself," isn't the best message to deliver to your fans. Who'd have thunk it?

Hey, I call it a renaissance because they've already gotten more pub in Chicago than the past five years combined!! :)

Rocky Wirtz is acting like a guy who couldn't wait to get his hands on dad's car.

In this case that's a good thing.

Yeah, but once Son wrecks once or twice, he usually calms down and drives the speed limit.

Hawks fans better hope Rocky's not shooting his whole wad in the first couple months.
