Apparently not possible for them to avoid being racist dipshits either, judging by the comments section.

Congratulations, Ms. Butler. It took only your lede sentence to destroy the relationship among Duke University, North Carolina Central University and the City of Durham.

One sentence. Very responsible journalism. Hope you're happy.

I doubt very many public colleges would keep somebody from graduating because of anything involving an honors code beyond academic malfeasance. Or if she had outstanding fees. I don't think reacting a bit wrongly to being the focus of some rich white boys' slave fantasy, and the crudity directed toward her that entailed, should keep her from graduating.

The column was pure homer, and pure college paper hysteria/incompetence. Horrible combo.

You're so right, responsible journalism means never pissing someone off. It's certainly the job and responsibility of a college newspaper columnist to make sure that the University sanitizes it's position in the community by using the student newspaper for propaganda purposes.

It was irresponsible, 'yab. Sometimes the opening statement is there to shake your foundation, yes. On other occasions, it hooks the reader.

This time, it was misused. It was a blanket statement about a school, one across town with whom relations are already strained. And it should embarrass the hell out of those associated with The Chronicle and Duke University as a whole.

And next time you want to preach, 'yab, please learn a little grammar. "It's" embarrassing.

As far as lacrosse case based rhetoric goes, this was tame.

And she takes a photo with a look of someone who has never set a toe inside a beauty parlor or gym.

And that's relevant, because her comments would be taken another way if she was beautiful or in great shape??
