Actually, I think it'll be Hunter Pence. They love Berkman, though. Good supporter of Rice baseball, too.

    Actually as a prequel...
Deacon White played on the 1876 White Stockings and the 1878-79 Cincinnati Reds
Deacon White played with Frank Scheibeck on the 1888 Detroit Wolverines.
Frank Scheibeck played with Ty Cobb on the 1906 Detroit Tigers.

So you can trace Craig Biggio's baseball lineage back to Al Spaulding.

Biggio was one of the classiest players in the league. The guy always appeared graceful, to media and fans, as well as grateful that he was able to play. And loyalty to a team (and the team to the player) is a very underrated thing these days. Biggio is the Astros and will be for a long, long, long time to come.

Hunter Pence seems to be a favorite. May be a flash in the pan, though.

You might want to check with Larry Dierker on that.

He'll have to work his way back from the DL now.

He's still playing, so it's all right if you use the present tense.

Echo that. Always had too much of the clubhouse-lawyer in him for my taste.

Deacon White played on the Cleveland Forest Citys of the 1871 National Association, the first professional baseball league, and had the first hit in professional league history, a single on May 4, 1871.

He was also the first athlete to win "Who's Now?"
