If Clemens doesn't get in first ballot, something is very very wrong.

  3. Puckett also benefited from the fact that his career was cut short due to a medical condition.
I think a strong correlation can be drawn to Santo and his diabetes.
How many more years might he have played without that?
How many HRs, RBIs, hits, etc., did he lose due to the fatigue from playing all those day games at Wrigley (which would be greatly exacerbated by the diabetes)?

Of course, I am a huge Cubs fan and therefore biased.
Was Santo the best third baseman of his era? Definitely on the short list.

There's a logical reason why NO PLAYER will ever be a unanimous selection. If that were to happen, that player would be able to call himself GOAT (Greatest of All Time). That distinction will not happen.
And remember, Jesus had 12 disciples. Eleven went with him, one against. If he can't get a unanimous selection, NO ONE will.

Back to Biggio-- will he be the first Hall of Famer who gets his name butchered by virtually every national TV broadcaster in the country?

BTW, for all of you broadcasters who read SportsJournalists.com, it's BIDGE-e-o, not BEEJH-e-o.
