Butter kills also. We need a revised economic theory.

And what about 'germs and steel?'

What percentage of handguns do you suppose are ever fired with the intent to kill (or even wound)?

Why not keep this on a handgun thread? Or the politics thread?

If you quantify with "plus or minus a few percentage points" or "handguns," it no longer means "only."

Guns do not *only* exist to kill people.

    That is all I'm saying.

    Because it's relevant.

One NFL player dead, one in jail. 75% of NFL players own guns. Testosterone filled, violent, young men with handguns are a threat to themselves, and their loved ones.

Wasn't that the lesson from last week?

This accident may have gotten guns out of the hands of potential killers. It may well have saved lives.

Guns exist as an instrument of destruction. Some people may interpret their use differently, but that's what they were invented to do -- kill.

Cars exist as an instrument of transportation.

    They don't?

What other primary use do guns have?

They weren't invented for target practice or as a fashion accessory.

Baseball bats were invented for a single reason: to hit a baseball.

The fact that you can beat someone brain's out with them has nothing to do with their intended use.

    Hunting. Animals aren't people.

    Self defense.

Most guns are never fired with the intent to kill someone.

Why else would you fire one? To make noise?
