This could've been averted if Brent had called the number on the back of his union card. Every NFL player has one and he would've been given a ride anywhere he wanted to go.

Guy must have been really wasted. AP story says he missed 10 a.m. hearing because he was still drunk. The crash occurred 7 1/2 hours earlier.
Tragic that he killed the guy who was probably his best friend ... they also were together for 3 years at Illinois. He'll be sitting in a cell thinking about that for a long while.

The union put that safeguard in to protect players from themselves.

Which didn't seem to work in this case.

BDC, I got where he was going long before your post. But what went over your head was that this is a message board. But thanks for playing catch up.

What's the likely prison term for this? Anyone have any idea?

    According to the Dallas News:

Brent had minor injuries, mostly scrapes, police said. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to a hospital where his blood was drawn. He was later booked into the Irving City Jail on the second degree felony charge, which is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Authorities said they are still awaiting the results of Brent's blood alcohol tests.

I'd be surprised if he serves more than two years. Fairly typical to plead these cases way down, especially if the driver and victim were friends in the same car (prosecutors have an easier time getting the victim's family on board with a plea for leniency).
