    That's a believable excuse, at least. Far better than anything Irvin the Inhaler or Vick Vaselino have come up with.

    The also signed the Dallas AFL team kicker, Carlos Martinez, to the practice squad. He'll probably be kicking at Texas Stadium before the year's over.

    I had a chance to watch Martinez for a while with the Desperados. He's tiny (listed around 5-7, but I'd guess he's about 5-4) but has a heck of a leg. His brother is involved with one of the ultimate fighting circuts, and it was great fun to watch him tackle these 6-3 return guys.

    I don't know if he'll stick with them, but he could hit 50-yard field goals in practice at Texas Stadium.
