    Cover ACC sports
The Daily Progress of Charlottesville, Va., anticipates filling an opening for its University of Virginia football beat this spring, and we're looking for a pro with proven ability to own a beat across multiple platforms. The primary function for the right candidate will be to provide complete coverage of UVa football, baseball and women's basketball. This must include hard news sports coverage, game coverage, feature writing ability and demonstrated ability to break news across multiple platforms, from print to video to social media and blogging. Includes general assignment sports coverage as needed. The ideal candidate is already Tweeting, blogging and breaking news while covering a collegiate sports program. He or she also recognizes that covering major programs requires a 24/7 mentality to lead a pack of highly motivated competitors on this beat. The Progress features one of Virginia's best sports staffs at a newspaper that places a high value on sports journalism. Help us build on an already strong audience, and have the time of your professional life along the way. Anticipated hire date: March/April. Good gig. Program on the rise (hopefully). Good people at the paper, including your potential bosses. Media General. That about sums it up.

If they're not hiring until April, who's covering the baseball team in the mean time?

I've heard bits and pieces of this Chik-fil-A Bowl debacle. What happened?

It wasn't just that. From what I've heard, he failed to file at least a half-dozen times. Like, the company spent money to send him places to cover UVa., and he just didn't file.

Frankly, I'm amazed he was able to do it more than twice.

Wow indeed. Would love to hear the inside dish on that story. But yeah, on someone's fourth or fifth oops, one would think the manager would start sharing the blame.

In fairness to the paper, they were without an SE for a while. I'm told the new guy is doing a good job.
