And get ready to dust off that National Career Readiness Certificate (whatever that is)...

The Newton Daily News, a five-day daily newspaper located in Newton, Iowa, and its associated weeklies are seeking a part-time sports reporter to assist with coverage of one of the six high schools in their coverage area. The position includes some general assignment news coverage, as well.

Our newspaper is on the move to a 21st century digital-first mindset, which will provide the ideal candidate with opportunities to integrate new technologies with traditional storytelling techniques. Ideal candidates should have newspaper sports and/or news experience. Photography experience is vital.

The Newton Daily News is part of Shaw Media, which is an equal opportunity employer and promotes a drug-free workplace. A pre-employment drug screen and background check will be required. Qualified applicants must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and automobile insurance.

As a member of Skilled Iowa, preference will be given to applicants who have obtained the National Career Readiness Certificate.

Send resume, cover letter and a sampling of your best news and photos and sports story clips to: Daily News Editor Bob Eschliman at beschliman@newtondailynews.com.
