Cover Letter advice

    You say you are young and looking for that first full-time job. I assume you are a recent college graduate.

    If that's the case, try hard need to shout from your cover letter that you are a recent college graduate. That's like saying -- "I have no experience."

    Instead, give some examples of what you have done -- stories with the college paper, writing headlines that won awards, stringing for the Podunk Press, freelancing for the New York Times, etc.

    Your college degree is nice, and you should list that on your resume. Prospective employers want to know if you can do the work. If you managed to get a college degree with few published clips, that answer is probably no.

    So give me a taste of what you have done.
