Hope this is not a d_b, but this is a terrible way for these kids to start their lives all on account of their parents. Makes you wonder how many more we will all wind up reading about or paying for in some way or another down the road.

Why the hell didn't they do a better job on this 7 years ago?

Those poor children were sentenced to 7 years of hell because they didn't do their job.

    So they
So the caseworkers couldn't do anything because the parents wouldn't cooperate?

That's like the police saying they couldn't arrest anyone because the criminals would not cooperate.

Having just finished reading "Room" this really hit me. Those poor children.

"She understands she had some shortcomings as a parent, but her love and desire to have the children and wanting to be there for her children has not changed," Gross said.. Really?

Parents can play a game on this where the answers can be "we homeschool" or "we are about to move" and fly under the radar for years.

Was this family collecting welfare or on medicade? If they were not, then they would be very tough to catch.

What's different here is that the neighbors said they never heard or saw any kids.

It's these kinds of stories that give home schooling a creepy vibe to me -- unless your kids are immersed in non-school activities.

Ace, there are a lot of people in the world, and some of them do sick things to their children.

What they were uncovering in the 1970s when it because law to send children to school was, well, disturbing.
