Erdogan went on a house cleaning spree a few years ago, jailing a lot of generals who he said were plotting a coup. I figured he was a tad paranoid.

He was democratically elected, but his party also rammed through changes to the constitution that solely benefited him.

Still waiting for the 4 horsemen of humanity to calm the world. What say you LeBron, DeWayne, CarMello and CPaul?

Well, I guess that settles it. I'll sleep better knowing that JohnHammond thinks my friend, who is an active war zone, is OK.

The next time you contribute something to this site will be first.

Kind of ironic that Erdogan resorted to social media, which he made every effort to stifle while in power, to appeal to his supporters.

Is he a secret protester or police officer? It's not a war zone, except for the Bosphorus Bridge and the parliament building, and such hysterics aren't helpful. Think about it for a minute. Foreigners aren't being targeted and he received training on what to do, which is likely to get home or the embassy/consulate. He's safe from military action related to the coup. I can't vouch for health problems or a traffic accident, but my foreign policy analysis can't help with those two situations.

Probably safer for Americans in Turkey than Paris at this point.
