Coup attempt in Turkey

I think I am going to check on my bug-out bag.

And to think I plan on bidding Baghdad or Kabul next tour ...

 

Streets seem relatively calm. Is Pokemon Go available there, yet?

 

It's midnight, you know. I was quite asleep.

I just heard two planes fly by outside. Hopefully commercial.

And now another is rumbling in the distance. Never noticed this many planes outside before, but I am usually not awake at this hour, either.

 

The dollar jumped 4.7 pct. against the lira this afternoon.

 

I'm going to go ahead and guess that they're not commercial.

 

Brexit is really fucking everything up.

 

Nothing commercial is flying in or out of Istanbul or Ankara tonight. On the bright side, most Turkish coups are relatively bloodless.

Erdogan's position is so weak he was calling into a TV station using FaceTime.

 

It's all fun and games until someone breaks out the WMDs.

Well, my immediate colleagues are all accounted for, as are my TDYers, and my phone has silenced. Since I don't have a TV, I'm going back to bed.

The planes I was hearing have halted for now. I guess I'll know more -- or at least hear more rumors -- later today. (It's almost 1 a.m. now.)

We just got a note that a curfew has been imposed, so I'm certainly not going anywhere anytime soon.
