In another attempt to regain its status as a bowl that matters...

This just about guarantees it'll be a BCS game when the next round of contract talks begin.

How do you figure? The current four probably won't want to let another one in. With the plus-one, the Orange/Fiesta/Sugar/Rose mean nothing when it comes to the national championship game and they host the title game once every four years. I don't think they'll want to go to a once-every-five-years rotation.

Right now 10 teams qualify for BCS games with two of the teams playing one week after the other eight so they can get away with playing five games at four stadiums.

If a true plus one comes into being, which it most likely will, all 10 BCS teams will have to play right around New Year's Day, with the winners of the designated "semifinal games" playing a week later. That means even if you play two games in one city you still need a fifth site to accomodate all 10 teams on Jan 1, 2 and 3.

It's also not out of the realm of possibility that either the Sugar or Orange Bowls loses its spot in the rotation.

The Sugar, privately, is not exactly optimistic about its ability to double-host this season. A poor performance running the Sugar and the week-later BCS title game could begin the conversation.

They shouldn't be optimistic. They won't be able to handle it. What sucks from a media standpoint is that they'll also be breaking in a new PR guy this year.

Shouldn't the Cotton Bowl be played at the.....Cotton Bowl?

Orange Bowl isn't at the Orange Bowl anymore.

What this does is set the stage for college football's future. The Cotton Bowl with take the fifth slot among the five BCS bowls, and the BCS Championship will be a plus-one.

The Cotton Bowl is college football's version of the Indy 500. And the new stadium is like Danica Patrick.

And that game should be played at it's stadium as well.

Ideally, sure, but aren't both stadiums in need of pretty serious overhaul?

And everyone: don't forget that not only would the Sugar Bowl have to deal with its own game and the plus-one, but it ALSO has to deal with the New Orleans Bowl! That's too much for one stadium to take!
