    Job Title: Copy Editor/Page Designer

    Reports to: Sports Editor & Director of Pagination

    Classification: Non-exempt (Hourly)

    Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities

    Summary: The Washington Examiner is seeking a versatile page designer and copy editor to join its copy desk. The ideal candidate works well on deadline and can juggle multiple assignments at once. Familiarity with sports is a must, and experience working on a sports copy desk is preferred. The position will involve copy editing and design work on the sports desk and contributing to the news desk once a week. Total hours will be approximately 20-25 a week with the possibility to increase in the future. Employee will be responsible for designing pages, copy editing — correcting spelling, terminology, liable, punctuation, grammatical and semantic errors — proofing and ensuring elements adhere to the newspaper’s style.     Responsibilities:

    * Must know and be able to apply knowledge of AP style in the editing process.
    * Helps to perfect details of grammar and style, and checks facts for accuracy.
    * Prepares the final copy for the printer.
    * Edits news stories and writes headlines.
    * Designs pages using InDesign, compiles artwork using Photoshop and filters content through The Washington Examiner’s NewsEditPro system.
    * Performs other duties as assigned.
    * Partners with the Creative/Production teams as necessary.

    Requirements:

    * 1-3 years experience as a copy editor and/or page designer.
    * Experience in InDesign plus experience in Photoshop and knowledge of AP style are preferred.
    * Ability to work well in a team and under tight deadlines is essential. We are committed to great design and are looking for someone to help us grow.
    * Shift, evening and weekend hours required.
