    Description:
Do you understand the crucial role copy editors/paginators play in today's newsrooms? As the flow and speed of information continues to increase, copy editors at the Mansfield (Ohio) News Journal are critical in our attempts to offer speedy, accurate and comprehensive news.

If you believe, as we do, that copy editors remain the backbone of the news operation, then we have an immediate opening for you at the News Journal.

As a copy editor/paginator in Mansfield, you will edit news, sports and features stories for publication on all platforms, including posting to web sites and designing pages for print editions. This position may post the same story online and then place it on an assigned page for pagination.

The copy you publish should be free of typos, grammatical errors and misspelling. You must understand and apply the newspaper’s style rules. You will write clear and accurate headlines for print and modify them for online as necessary.

You will design pages for print products while working to ensure Gannett values such as Real Life, Real News, mainstreaming/diversity, attracting younger readers and defending the First Amendment are reflected in the newspaper’s products.

Paid a visit to Mansfield over the weekend to visit relatives. The place has an Applebees, a Chipolte, a Cheddar's, a Target, a Best Buy, a JCPenney, a Macy's, among others. Mansfield is halfway between Cleveland and Columbus on I-71. Not much going on in terms of sports locally, but it is the home of Mid-Ohio, which has hosted CART races in the past.

Here's the bad news: The big GM plant in town is closing as part of Obama's restructuring. Once it does, so will the town. Most of the talk I heard had to do with how real estate will be available on low-low once GM closes.
