    Position: Copy editor/page designer
    Location:Greenwood, South Carolina
    Job Status: Full-time
    Salary: $25,000 to $30,000
    Ad Expires: December 19, 2011
    Job ID: 1188782
    Website: http://www.indexjournal.com

    Description:
The Index-Journal, a forward-thinking, progressive 15,000-circulation daily in Greenwood, S.C., is looking for a talented and energetic copy editor/page designer to join its award-winning team.
The Index-Journal, named the top newspaper in its circulation in South Carolina, also won a newspaper-record 14 awards in 2011. We want more hardware.
The person hired will handle a variety of tasks — copy editing, headline writing, page designing and updating our website – on our universal desk.
We're looking for somebody who understands local news matter and can convey that through eye-catching and reader-friendly presentation. We want somebody who puts pride in his/her work and has a passion for journalism. We need somebody who is professional, a positive force on our staff and can work without hand-holding. Copy editors/page designers have the toughest job in our newsroom, and we want somebody who can accept the challenge and produce. The person hired will handle news, sports and feature pages, as well as special sections. We have a three-member copy editing/page design team.
The Index-Journal is a family-owned daily newspaper in a beautiful section of South Carolina. Yes, we're a small daily newspaper, but we want to think big. We want to challenge the regular parameters attached to small papers and eschew the new way of thinking — smaller staff, less local copy, lower quality. We firmly believe the best way for a newspaper to succeed in this economic climate is to put out the best product possible. Period.
This is the ideal job for somebody fresh out of college or a talented journalist looking to make the move up from a weekly, but proven veterans looking to relocate to a charming Southern town are welcome to apply, as well.

We have a three-person universal desk, and our copy editors/page designers handle news, sports, features and special sections. But if an applicant is stronger in sports, then we'd obviously utilize that person more in sports than on other pages.

Scott is good people, and he cares deeply about the product. If I were permitted a seal of approval - thank goodness no one is that stupid - this would get it.
