    Here's the formal wording...

Gannett Co., Inc. is searching for wire copy editors to work in the newly formed newspaper design studio in Louisville, Ky. You will edit wire stories and other non-local content selected by newspaper editors at client newspapers. The copy editor will edit for style and consistency and will fact-check as needed. The copy editor will write headlines and other display type and/or modify for design needs any suggested headlines and display type written by client newspaper editors. The copy editor will ensure stories meet the standards of the client newspapers and that they appear at the desired length and on assigned pages as envisioned by client editors. The copy editor will at various times be asked to edit national and foreign stories, sports stories, business stories, features and entertainment stories.

    And here's the skinny...

We're looking for someone with a sports background and at least three to five years of experience to fill a current opening. Yes, some other news editing is involved, but sports knowledge/experience is of utmost importance. We are currently editing and designing three newspapers each night, with the Cincinnati Enquirer coming aboard soon. By 2013, we'll be working with 21 newspapers. If you know your way around a sports desk, can compile a roundup, can write crisp headlines and know what a QB passer rating is, let us hear from you.

Job is located in the Louisville Courier-Journal building in downtown Louisville. Good town with lots to do. Evening hours, typically 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with weekends included, of course.

Send resumes to me at BHait@gannett.com and Andy Alderette at aalderette@courier-journal.com.

Any design work or just text editing?

No design work at all. It's all editing and writing display type.
