LSJ Media and the Lansing State Journal has an opening on its sports desk for a versatile copy editor who can paginate under deadline pressure, manage website content on a daily basis and contribute regularly to story development. Three to five years experience with a background in sports is preferred, a desire to help improve the product is a must. This position is a desk shift, five nights a week -- weekends and holidays included. Send a resume and cover letter to sports editor Mark Meyer at mmeyer@lSportsJournalists.com by Aug. 6. We are looking to fill this position by Sept. 1.

I've heard some good things about Lansing and the paper, from friends who went to Michigan State.

But anyone interested in this one should definitely ask these questions ...

    1) Is this a pure sports copy editor position, or is this a copy editor position that focuses on sports but also branches out as part of a universal desk?
    2) With the Universal Design Centers coming and corporate saying that some copy editing jobs will go away across the board through the chain, is this a job that could wind up being temporary? What kind of numbers (if any) are expected to go away, through either unfilled positions or layoffs, when the UDC goes into effect?
