The Midland Reporter-Telegram is accepting résumés for a full-time copy editor and page designer position on its universal desk. The right candidate should have a knack for grammar, punctuation and Associated Press style but also can find inconsistencies in stories and isn’t afraid to ask questions. He or she also should have an eye for page design. Some online duties will be required.

A bachelor’s degree in journalism or English, two years of editing experience, Quark or InDesign knowledge and proficiency in AP style are preferred. Time on a universal desk and experience editing sports copy are pluses.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to make a difference at a daily newspaper. Midland, Texas, is a city of 100,000 that sits at the heart of the region’s oil patch and offers an excellent quality of life. The Reporter-Telegram is part of the Hearst Corporation and offers a competitive salary and benefits.

If you are interested in the copy editor and page designer position, please send a cover letter, résumé, your best design samples and three references to Trevor Hawes, News Editor, Midland Reporter-Telegram, 201 E. Illinois Ave., Midland, TX 79701. Candidates also can e-mail PDF files to thawes@mrt.com.

This is my hometown! Was just there over Christmas.

Midland is a great place to raise a family and with oil booming it is an exciting time out there.
