    Newspaper: York Daily Record/Sunday News

Job listing: Sports copy editor/page designer

Contact: Sports Editor Chris Otto (cotto@ydr.com or 717-771-2064)

The York Daily Record/Sunday News is seeking an experienced, talented copy editor/page designer to join its sports staff. We are a seven-day morning newspaper and 24/7 web operation in southcentral Pennsylvania. This is a MediaNews Group-owned newspaper with circulations of 47,000 daily and 90,000 Sunday.

The person we hire will be one of three full-time sports copy editors/designers on an overall production team that also includes a sports editor and assistant sports editor. This position is five nights per week.

Our primary coverage areas include local high school sports, local college sports, Penn State football, the York Revolution minor-league baseball team, hunting and and auto racing. Because of our location, we must balance coverage of MLB (Orioles, Phillies) and NFL (Steelers, Ravens, Eagles) throughout the year.

We are looking for a strong copy editor with excellent news judgment, eye-catching design skills and an ability to consistently meet pressure deadlines. Our copy editors are also fully involved with the posting and editing of stories and other content on our web sites --- www.inyork.com/ydr and www.gametimepa.com. We need someone who is enthused about the direction of online sports journalism and can bring fresh ideas and energy to that important area while still helping us publish a superior print edition each day.

We are looking to move quickly on this opening. Send resume, references and your best design clips to Chris Otto, Sports Editor, York Daily Record/Sunday News, 1891 Loucks Road, York, Pa. 17408. Or, better yet, e-mail those materials to cotto@ydr.com.

    EOE.

Chris is good people for/with whom to work. As are many others on the sports staff there.

Camden is a short drive away, and I hear the Revolution's stadium is nice, too.

I think Chris' desire to move quickly might not be management's desire.

York's not a bad city. It's real close to Baltimore and Harrisburg, and it's got everything you'd want in a mid-sized city.

The Wire on a much smaller scale.

Update: This position has been filled with a top-notch external candidate from a newspaper in Ohio.

Thanks to all who applied. We will be keeping all resumes that we received on file for one year.
