You'd think the cops could have figured out a way to immobilize the fella.

Well, that's not at all a misleading headline.

Brandishing a 12-inch butcher knife = "surly." And I'm sure "shooting" wasn't at all meant to invoke images of bullets and not beanbags.

At least they know the shooters. Maybe Monique Davis was right after all.

They shot him, with a gun, with bag-wrapped ammo that still can be lethal.

And yeah, he had a butcher knife, and he was 95. There were better ways to handle it.

It's one thing to shoot a big ol' dog like a Rottweiler in the heat of the moment. But if you can't talk down and subdue a 95-year-old man with a knife then something really is wrong. And that isn't a knock on cops. Every situation is different, and this one really should have ended without zap juice and (coated) bullets. Jesus Christ, throw a fucking large net of the fella and make your move.

    95.

I absolutely agree it could have been handled better. But the dissonance between what I expected from the thread title and what actually happened annoyed me. It feels manipulative.

"Police kill knife-wielding 95-year-old man with taser, bean-bag gun" could have provoked just as much outrage.

The should have shown him pictures of Kate Upton. It would have taken his
    breath away.

This is a good reason why cops should not be in schools either. They are trained in force
and tend to overreact when a different solution is needed.

All they needed to do was start playing some classical music, and the guy would've fallen asleep.

One trick is to tell 'em stories that don't go anywhere. Like the time I went to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time.
