we have both sheriff's deputies and constables in most texas counties. and yes, the constables are ut there writing tickets just like a sheriff's deputy, policeman or whatever.

Exactly correct. It's supposed to be used instead of the gun to give the officer a non-lethal option to stop imminent danger -- NOT just to make someone a little more manageable.

I'm not defending that woman at all, but the cop is a complete asshole.

Maybe he should've pepper-sprayed her instead.

I'd like to see how it transpired that she was able to get out of the car. That's a big no-no. Seems to me like this cop never had control and the taze was the end result. Was she in the wrong? Yes. But no way a guy that big needed to taze her. Bad woman. Bad cop.

I love how with stories like this when the woman in question is around that age, without fail, many media outlets will mention that she's a grandmother. But when it's a man of that age, you rarely hear him referred to as a grandfather.

The fact that she has grandchildren is relevant how?

Upon further review, I'm going to soften just a tad and agree with Rick's fine post.
He probably could have handled it differently but she has no grounds to complain. Add in that she lied and was caught in her lie by the tape *** sorry, granny. No sympathy.
    Good point, too, by ondeadline.
Grannys aren't all nice, old and sweet.

Lauer was actually pretty funny discussing this. He came down pretty hard on the side of the cop and then said, "Unless we've booked her. Then I agree with her."

She was resisting and failing to comply. Unless there's an age limit on a tazer, I'd say use it. If a cop threatened to use a tazer on me, I'd comply in a heartbeat.

Tazers aren't supposed to be used to make people more compliant.
