Consecutive Games Question

    Folks,

Let's say theoretically, Cal Ripken, Jr. was sent to the minors for a week during his consecutive games streak.

Would the streak still have been active when he returned to the majors?

This is sort of work related. Thanks.

I would have to say no ... injury, DNP-coaches decision, not on the active roster, etc. ... no matter what the reason, he would have missed an Orioles game, breaking the consecutive games streak.

Would the record book make an exception for a player on bereavement leave? If Cal had lost his father or mother, etc., during the streak and took a day or two off, would the streak still have counted?

    I would think absolutely not.

I'd think your example is a clearer case than Dude's.

Still say no, even though it would be under unfortunate circumstances.

No all around. If the O's played a game and Cal wasn't part of it his streak would have ended.

They'd have just kept having rainouts, right?

    and power failures.

Shit! That's what I meant. It wasn't a damn rainout, it was a power failure.

Or hope that the game he might miss is suspended and restarted at a later date, at which timehe could be insterted into the lineup.

It's the same thing as if he were injured. If he's not in the lineup, his streak is over.
