    The kind of folks who are apt to ferret out corruption, to stick a magnifying glass on big business, tend to be liberal. Otherwise, they would be relatively content with the status quo. So that hasn't changed. What has evolved, though, is an increasing series of high-profile venues to spin the anti-liberal point of view.

    When a major paper I worked for went out of business, the general position among the media in that town was, "Good." We had a conservative editorial page, so who cared if about 125 terrific journalists lost their job. I'll never forget how shocked I was by that. I figured if anybody would stand up for reporters, it was other reporters.
