Here's an eight-year-old article comparing how boxing handles concussions and how the NFL handles them:

Wow, that is some flat-out vile stuff Reilly had to write about. That con artist should be forced to take hits from an up-cycle Shawne Merriman every day for six months, if not more. My neighbor across the street was a guard for the Packers and Cowboys during the early & mid 80s, and he says his knees are constantly in pain, even after shedding 60 or so pounds. I hope and pray those are the only things that are bothering him.

Figured I'd resurrect an old thread rather than let this get lost in the NFL one. It's another story about a mishandled concussion.

Here's the link to a related story about former NFL player Dave Pear that is on another thread.

Is football still more morally acceptable than boxing because the object of the game is not to injure the opponent?

Terry Long is my poster child for the issue

Are the air helmets still in use? If so, are they helping?

I'm depressed about the NFL but mostly it's because of the craptastic matchups I'm offered each Sunday afternoon.

I'm reminded of Gene Hickerson's Hall of Fame induction. The poor man appeared to have no clue what was going on around him.

For far too long, coaches and players have inserted themselves back into situations where they should have been taken out for a week or longer. This isn't about machismo or taking one for the team, or not letting all the other players down, its about making sure you are healthy and have a quality of life when you get older.

It just seems that there is a lot more attention being paid to concussions now.

It most definitely IS about all that.
