    Of course it is, NQLBLQ. That's the mantra for a thousand businesses. It's little comfort to those who are just starting out or maybe don't really "know" anyone, but that's definitely how it is and maybe even more so for .coms, since so many folks came from newspapers and in many cases are now helping their old brethren flee bad situations.

    Agreed, though the "Who you know" part doesn't hold a lot of weight, though, if you don't know anything. Otherwise, that person's a moron to recommend you in the first place.

    Sorry to be an ass, but you buy an envelope. Then, you insert your clips, resume and cover letter, and mail them to the editor. Also, you should probably e-mail all that to said editor. And after a week or so, follow up with an e-mail.
    By the way, don't limit yourself to Web sites even though the job market for newspapers sucks.
