You don't need PBS. All you need is this TV appearance by Johnny Horton singing "The Battle of New Orleans."

Meh. Only the second-biggest war that year.

Not even big enough for someone to write an Overture about it.

When was the War of 1812?
    Who's buried in Grant's Tomb?
How long do you cook a three-minute egg?
What's the color of an orange?

I liked that they included that in the special.

Not to mention the National Anthem.

as today was the bicentennial of the first battle of the War of 1812, the British capture of Mackinac Island, I went to the reenactment at the fort. Not a bad evening. Even got a picture with my 11 year old cousin consorting with the red-coats on the boat back to Mackinaw City.
Of course since this week also coincides with the boat races, the island was packed with rich, white, middle aged drunks.

That was a historic day when the Brits captured all of the fudge shops in the New World.
