Supreme Court rejects 1 Redskins appeal; other case pending

The headline is one of those that is accurate but sort of misleading at the same time. The Supreme Court rejected their appeal, but that was mostly expected because the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has yet to hear the case and it's unusual for the Supreme Court to circumvent the lower appellate courts.

The Supreme Court did take up The Slants - an Asian-American rock band - appeal of their case, which will likely effect the Redskins case because the issues are similar, although not identical. The Slants have a much better argument for the use of their name, but I'm not sure the Supreme Court can come up with a rule - even if they wanted to - that would allow it in their case and disallow it in The Redskins case.
