Come hell or high water -- Vegas wants a pro team

This was big news on KJR Seattle during AM drivetime; they were the Sonics broadcaster until last year.

Vegas facility, privately financed. Meanwhile Seattle's City Council, led by Nick Licata ('professional basketball has no redeeming economic or social value'), is trying to use the three-year lease on the KeyArena to keep the Sonics in town for at least that long.

There's an interesting little drama going on up here for anyone who cares: social forces, politics and economics, not to mention pro sports. Seattle Sonics: a burden or an amenity?

Pretty much a sideshow from my perspective, but I've always enjoyed a good sideshow.

On many nights, the American League has an overall better product. Say no to further NHL dilution.

Interesting that AEG is behind the new arena in Kansas City and does not have an NBA or NHL tenant, now it's going to be behind this one in Vegas.

At least it's not as bad as the old days, when Toronto was in the west.

Slappy, I think they'd keep Detroit in the west to keep them paired with Chicago.

Will Harrah's deal that horrid 6-to-5 blackjack on the concourses in the new arena? Run, run away.

No way in hell the Lightning should be on that list, not with the new ownership and the deal they got to develop around the Forum.

    Who owns the team now?

Know this -- forget an expansion NHL team. Vegas's frontrunning fans make the bulk of Cowboy
fans appear loyal. The novelty of a new team would wear off quickly, and without powerful levels
of casino conglomerate ticketbuying support, the gate receipts would reach ugly levels, fast.

Las Vegas can eat shit on top of shit. And shit on top of that.

Forget moving a team there, it is a radioactive state.

Perfect for, say, a team in the general phyla of the Florida Marlins. Pefect.
