The Amarillo Globe-News is seeking a sports reporter to join its team in the Texas Panhandle. You can learn from an experienced staff while covering a variety of high schools in the area, along with West Texas A&M University. There will also be opportunities to cover local pro hockey, football and baseball among other sports.

This position is expected to be available for several beats, providing an opportunity to cover several state championship caliber teams and athletes. There will also be chances to assist with coverage of prep football and West Texas A&M football.

Not only are strong reporting and writing skills required, but the candidate must be conversant in social media and digital platforms. This will mean contributing with video and photo projects. Old fashioned print media skills such as grammar, spelling and punctuation are also required.

A four-year college degree, preferably in journalism or a related field, is preferred. This is an excellent opportunity for a young journalist looking to build clips and experience.

All who are interested should send a cover letter, resume and work samples to sports editor Lance Lahnert at lance.lahnert@amarillo.com. For any questions, call 806-345-3307.
