I was impressed with Kellen Clemens' performance against the Redskins. He stood tall in the pocket, showed pretty good mobility and was able to throw the ball downfield.

The Jets need to improve the offensive and defensive lines, receivers and their pass rush.

They need to work on stopping the run, too.

Other than that, though, they're ready to play in Super Bowl XLIV.

Methinks they'll need a running back, too. I like Thomas Jones, but I think the Bears got the best two years out of him.

I am not sure that it's fair to judge Thomas Jones by this season. The Jets offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, has done a terrible job implementing the run game. Marty's son has the Jets in three and four and five-wide sets. Rarely, do the have Jones line up behind a fullback and run the ball.

Here's a perfect example. In the loss to the Eagles, Jones had a first down carry for seven yards. The next two plays, Pennington's passes were incomplete. If a guy is busting off a seven yard run on first down, why not give him the ball again?

600 carries in 2 years - the bears rode him hard and left him out wet.

I agree. Sooner or later, they're going to have to draft a No. 1 back. As much of a playmaker as Leon Washington is, he's not an every down back.

In a perfect world, the Jets would get McFadden. But (A) I'm not sure he's going pro and (B) he won't be around when Gangrene picks. I think Mike Hart or Ray Rice--should he go pro--are the type of backs that could be considered possible replacements for Thomas Jones.

I think McFadden leaves after this season. That NBC ranking I alluded to earlier had him No. 4. If that holds, I'm guessing the Jets could get him.

That's a hell of a point. But the popular thinking is that the Mangini-Tannenbaum brain trust are thinking about Michigan's Chris Long.

On a completely unrelated note, is this the longest discussion on the New York Jets in SJ history?

As long as we're talking NFL, I'm happy.
