Depends on the breed. Many terriers are more high strung than some large dogs. In many cases, the little dogs need more run-around time and space than the big ones do.

A Jack Russell terrier is far more active than a Rott.

Fair enough. No dogs at all, then. :)

There's not enough land in Montana to satisfy a Jack Russell.

I just hope her kid doesn't grow up to play sports in our coverage area.

So ... Mitch Albom fabricated this column, too?

I picked up a copy of the Sunday AA on the way back from the Tiger game that day. Saw this column and I went "holy shit"...

Spare me the stereotypes about typical Ann Arbor self-absorbed liberals (although that's what I was thinking... lol). The only thing I thought was my sports editor is a huge dog lover. If she saw this column, SHE is the one that would froth at the mouth. Wow.

In Ann Arbor it's ok to wash your feet in the sink, but bad form to have a dog.

Wrong University of Michigan campus. That would be Dearborn.

Point well taken. I would take the column to an upper-level editor.

One more note (sorry for three straight posts on the same thing): The offending sentence has been removed (thankfully). The editor's note from an unnamed editor:

(Editor's note: This column has been revised to remove a sentence that did not clearly convey the meaning that the writer intended. We recognize that many people who read the column understandably misinterpreted the sentence as a threat against pets, and in recognition of that, we have agreed to strike the sentence from the column. We appreciate the feedback we received on this issue and we will always seek to be responsive to the concerns of the community.)

Eliminating one sentence was a good start.

Yes - sorry. I stand corrected.
