    With the "June-earlier" method, you'll have age bias: you'll have one team essentially the older half of the class, which does make a difference at that age level.

    Another problem I have with the analogy: In most gym classes (or at least the ones I was in) the varsity athletes were in the same class as the non-athletes and would compete directly with each other. In math, science, English, etc. there were advanced classes, average classes and remedial classes. So do our defenders of gym wish the meatheads to take Calc, AP Lit and Physics senior year? "It's a tough world, get out your graphing calculator and man up, sonny boy."
