Columbia Daily Tribune sold -- to GateHouse

Not surprised one bit. Fuck that company.

 

The thing about GateHouse's Austin design hub is it's a double whammy. Not only do you lose the pagination jobs, but also it costs the paper money to pay for the service, so the paper has to cut reporter positions too.

 

The GateHouse purge ... I feel your pain

 

But I thought the places claimed this kind of centralization allowed for "more boots on the ground" to do reporting.

 

Anyone who believed that was not going to make a great reporter anyway.

 

It's like when places drop AP. "We'll put the money back into our staff!" Yeah ...

 

And you get boilerplate designs and hed busts aplenty.

 

More layoffs today at the Tribune. I'll post more when I know more -- and get the OK from those affected.

 

How about a head count? Got a number?

 

The SE was part of it. Wrote a very gracious column on his way out.

 

Are they going to replace the SE there? Because I know one GateHouse paper that is going on three years without an official sports editor on duty.

 

Shrug. Dunno.
