I will be glad when Peyton signs somewhere so the nonsense about SF can stop. The Niners were a cleanly fielded punt away from making the Super Bowl. They are not going to shitcan their starting quarterback in favor of a guy who is just as likely to never play again. Alex Smith does what they need him to do, and if they upgrade the league's worst receiving corps he will look better.

Irsay needs to learn to cry like a man.

I don't think I've ever seen an owner cry while releasing a player.

Think Peyton keeps his summer home in Muncie?

Definitely the first time a player has ever choked up talking about the equipment guys.

Manning did the Colts a huge favor with this presser. On the other hand, Irsay, given how much rebuilding the Colts have to do, may have done Manning a huge favor by not keeping him to QB this team. Assuming he can throw. I found it interesting that Manning himself didn't declare he was ready to throw. He said he was close and making progress -- but threw up enough red flags that a team wanting to sign him had better watch very, very closely.

That statement might actually generate more teams interested in Manning, as it suggests he's willing to be signed at growth stock rather than blue chip price.

That is as good a departure as it could be for both parties.
    Lebron could take a lesson.

    Dear Peyton,

Sign with the Browns. Please? The whole Colt McCoy thing isn't that great.

    Sincerely,

They do need to upgrade the receiving corps. That goes without saying, but as much as Smith improved last season, I think you would have to be pretty optimistic to think he is the guy who can bring the Niners another title.

Everything fell right for the Niners last season until the NFC Championship game. They were underestimated more than once and they had no competition within their own division. That will not happen next year.

Manning will not wind up with the Niners, but if Manning can play anywhere close to his 2010 level (a huge if), he could easily get the Niners to the Super Bowl.
